What’s in My Bag – My Essential Photography Gear

As a travel and street documentary photographer, my camera bag is like my mobile studio. Over the years, I have fine-tuned my gear to ensure that I can capture the best moments wherever I go. Whether it’s a bustling street scene, a serene landscape, or an intense festival moment, my bag carries everything I need to get the perfect shot.

I have been using a Lowepro protective bag for the past five years. It’s sturdy, well-padded, and perfect for carrying all my essential equipment while keeping them safe during my travels.

My Camera & Lenses

I shoot with a Sony Alpha 9 Mark III, which is a powerhouse for street and documentary photography. It’s fast, reliable, and delivers outstanding image quality.

For lenses, I carry:

• Sony 35mm f/1.8 – My favorite and most-used lens. It’s perfect for capturing the essence of street photography, offering a natural perspective with great low-light performance.

• Sony 85mm f/1.8 – I use this for portraits, offering beautiful depth and sharpness.

• Sony 24-70mm G Master – A versatile lens for when I need flexibility in framing my shots.

I also use a NiSi True Color filter on my 85mm lens for enhanced colors and contrast.

Accessories & Essentials

Apart from my camera and lenses, here are the essentials I always carry:

  • Sony ECM-W3 | Dual-Channel Wireless Camera Microphone – I use this for all my content. It’s the best choice, especially for Sony Alpha cameras.

  • Sony ECM-B10 Digital Shotgun Microphone – A compact and high-quality microphone that ensures clear audio for my video recordings.

  • DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone – A lightweight and powerful drone for capturing stunning aerial shots during my travels.

  • Manfrotto Tripod – I don’t always use it, but it’s handy for long-exposure shots and stable compositions.

  • Digitek Small LED Light – A portable light source that helps in low-light conditions when needed.

  • Angelbird Memory Cards – Reliable and fast storage is crucial. I carry two 256GB cards, ensuring I never run out of space. I also use an Angelbird Card Reader for quick transfers.

Apple Ecosystem

I believe in the iOS ecosystem, which helps streamline my workflow and ensures seamless connectivity between my devices.

  • MacBook Pro (Latest Model) – My main editing machine for post-processing and managing my workflow.

  • iPad Pro (Latest Model) – I use it for quick edits, reviewing shots, and sometimes sketching ideas.

Storage & Data Management

Keeping my data safe is a priority, so I use multiple storage solutions:

  • Seagate & WD External Hard Drives – I always carry at least one of these for backups.

  • SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD – My go-to for fast data transfers and on-the-go storage.

Extra Essentials

  • Jio AirTag – Helps me track my bag in case it gets misplaced.

  • Chargers & Cables – Essential for keeping everything powered up.

  • Insta360 Action Camera – I use this for behind-the-scenes (BTS) footage of my shoots.

Final Thoughts

My bag weighs around 15 kg, but I make sure to carry all the necessary gear to be ready for any situation. Whether I am exploring the streets of Mumbai or traveling across different landscapes, my setup helps me document the world in the best possible way.

This setup has been refined over the years, ensuring I can shoot efficiently while staying mobile. If you’re a photographer looking for a well-rounded kit, I highly recommend investing in reliable gear that suits your style of photography.

  • A Sony A7iii with 28-70 f3.5-5.6 Lens

  • Canon 1500d with a 50mm1.8 and two kit lenses(usually I just carry it with a 50mm)

  • Boya bym1 Wired mic

  • Digitek Tripod

  • Digitek small LED RGB Panel

  • MacBook Air M2

  • A Hard Drive(WD or SEAGATE)

  • An SanDisk 1tb SSD which is a lifesaver and my best buddy for working directly from it 🫡

  • I carry a few memory cards but my go to cards are Prograde 128gb v60 and a Sony 64gb v60

  • Transcend UHSII Card Reader(which is very quick and reliable)

  • Plus a USB hub because mac supports only two type c thunderbolt ports 🙃

It took me a fortune to get all these gears one by one and I am planning…
